Doug Jernigan - "Black Mountain Rag"
A great player whose name is well-known among Steel Guitar aficionados, but not so much among the average listener. At the age of 12 Doug already played professionally; when he came to Nashville he worked with George Jones and Johnny Paycheck as well as doing regular studio and session work. His speed and precision is always amazing. He was the first player to change old fiddle and guitar instrumentals/ hoedowns like "Black Mountain Rag", "Leather Britches" and "Sugarfoot Rag" into instrumentals for the Steel Guitar. In the last years he also turned heavily towards Jazz, adapting songs by Charlie Parker and Hoagie Carmichael for the Steel Guitar. His latest releases include the albums "Country Jazz Steel Guitar" and "Jazz By Jernigan".
Doug Jernigan is a member of the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame.
