Jeff Newman - "Steel Guitar Teacher"
Jeff Newman has been in the business for more than 30 years, not only as a session player and road musician, he was the number one Steel Guitar Teacher in the world! Thousands of players learned from him or got support and helpful hints from his courses and seminars. The seminars he conducted at Steel Guitar Shows around the world were always packed. Jeff not only taught music, like no other he knew how to make students understand the philosophy of the instrument. He was a legendary teacher and ran "Jeffran College", defintely the number one when it comes to written courses, tabulature, cassettes, videos and other learning material. No matter which level of playing you were at, Jeff Newman always had the right thing for you! Steel Guitar Players from all parts of the world freely admit that it was Jeff Newman who got them started and guided them through the difficult beginner level.
On April 7, 2004 Jeff Newman died in a plane crash near his home town of Lebanon, Tennessee while trying out his new ultra-light plane for the first time. He is sadly missed by the entire Steel Guitar Community.
Jeff Newman is a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
