John Hughey - "Heart and Soul"
Country Music fans all over the world still remember Conway Twitty, the ex-Rock'n'Roller who recorded hit after hit in the late 1960's and 1970's, songs like "Hello Darlin'", "Fifteen Years Ago", "Linda On My Mind" and "Next In Line". A major part of the sound (and success!) of Conway Twitty belongs to the man who played Steel Guitar for Conway since he changed from Rock'n'Roll back to Country Music: JOHN HUGHEY
His tasty backing and beautiful vibrato contributed a perfect musical background to Conway Twitty' music. Besides playing on all of Conway's No. 1 Country Hits, he also recorded with artists like Cal Smith, Jack Greene, Skeeter Davis and Wayne Kemp. After Conway Twitty's passing in 1991 he was touring and recording with Vince Gill, the result being unforgettable recordings like "Pocket Full Of Gold", "Kindly Keep It Country" and the song that has become an anthem for all Steel Guitar Lovers: "Look At Us"! This one instantly became a favorite among players, but, be honest: Nobody plays it like the man! Guitarist Bobby Caldwell refers to the song as "the greatest instrumental with vocal accompaniment ever recorded"!
John Hughey is a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
