Anthology Vol.1 (1995)

Apart from the first new Beatles song in 25 years Free As A Bird this album, which was released in november of 1995, includes several unreleased material like the only studio recording of the band under the name The QuarrymenIn Spite Of All The Danger which is the only McCartney/Harrison composition until now, and the Buddy Holly song That'll Be The Day. Also songs to be mentioned from their legendary Decca sessions which can't be missing and a few songs from their Hamburg days with Stu Sutcliffe on the bass and Pete Best on the drums. The Demo to Free As A Bird was recorded by John Lennon at the end of 1977 but put aside for some unknown reason. It should have been used for the musical The Ballad Of John And Yoko which has never been realised, last but not least because of John's violent death. In 1994 Yoko Ono handed out the demo to Paul McCartney which the three surviving Ex-Beatles recorded as an overworked version (especially drums, guitar, bass and completion of the words). The maxi single was released in 1995, shortly before the release of the LP Anthology 1.
