Cat Stevens was born 21.7.1947 in London as Stephen Demetri Georgiou.
The Son of a swedish mother and a greek father started to like music in his early childhood. In 1966 he made his first records and with "I Love My Dog" he had his first hitsong. With "Matthew And Son" and "I'm Gonna Get Me A Gun" Cat had his first Top 10 songs. But also as songwriter he had success: The titles "The First Cut Is The Deepest", performed by P.P. Arnold and "Here Comes My Baby" with the Tremeloes rised to hits.
From 1967 till 1970 he had to make a break because of Tuberculosis.
But then, he was back and "Lady D'Arbanville" came into the GB-Charts. With "Wild World" he had his first Top-20 song in the US-Charts in spring 1971 and in the same year, "Peace Train" came under the Top-10. One year later, "Morning Has Broken" became Number 6 in the US-Charts. In 1974 he had his last two chart-songs: "Oh Very Young" and "Another Saturday Night".
He continued with very nice LPs and Songs, including "Father And Son" or "Remember The Days Of The Old Schoolyard". Rod Stewart came with his version of "The First Cut Is The Deepest" on position 1 in the GB-Charts in 1977.
In 1979, Cat Stevens left the musicbusiness because of his religious change to the Islam. The Reason for this change is unknown.
On a LP in 1984 with his greatest hits, you can read that Yusuf Islam, so he called himself, now lives happy and satisfied with his wife and children, fighting for peace and the Islam.
