About Betty Garrett:
Betty Garrett is most known
in Europe, for the parts she played in the musical-films of MGM’s „Golden
Era“: „Take Me Out To The Ballgame“ und „On The Town“ with Frank
Sinatra, Ann Miller and Gene Kelly, „Neptune’s Daughter“ with Red Skelton
and Esther Williams or „My Sister Eileen“ with Jack Lemmon.
Her first love however, has
always been the stage. She studied dancing in New York City and her first
appearances on the New York stage were with Orson Welles‘ Mercury Theater.
She starred in „Call Me Mister“ 1945 on Broadway, for which she won the
Donaldson Award (a forerunner of the Tony).
She developed her One-Woman-Show
„Betty Garrett and Other Songs“, at the Los Angeles Theatre West (of which
she is one of the founding members), which won her the Los Angeles Drama
Critics Award. Miss Garrett toured with her show all over the States and
even took it to London in 1993. Recently she released an autobiography
of the same name, giving a wonderful picture of her life and the entire
showbiz of the past 60 years.
Betty is the widow of Larry
Parks, of „Jolson Story“ fame and has two sons and a granddaughter.
