Retribution, the latest Pay-per-view effort from World
Wrestling All-Stars, was taped this past December in
Glasgow, Scotland, and featured the television return of
Sting to the ring for the first time since the final
Nitro.
The show opened with Andrew McManus (who was not
identified on screen) talking to someone on the phone
about showing up and "blowing the roof" off the
place. McManus then made Mike Sanders the commissioner
for the night, saying he was following in the footsteps
of Bret Hart and Sid Vicious as commish. Sanders said he
was the man who took Ric Flair's job, and said he would
handle things tonight.
A troop of Scottish bagpipers played, then Jeremy Borash
opened the show in the ring, and introduced Disco Inferno
as his broadcast partner for the night. Borash was doing
double duty as ring announcer and play by play man.
...
Borash spent a good portion of the early part of the
match telling fans exactly what WWA is, putting over
their international tours and past events, and pointing
out that Sting vs. Luger was for the vacant WWA World
Title.
...
Lex Luger was interviewed, saying he and Sting's careers
have come full circle. He said they were both out of the
ring the same amount of time, and both were coming back
tonight. Luger put over Sting, and said that despite
their friendship, both he and Sting were going out to the
ring to win.
Lex Luger defeated Sting to become the WWA World
Heavyweight Champion in about seven minutes. Luger looked
huge and cut. Sting got a huge ovation coming out to the
ring, and had his black baseball bat and "Crow"
look. Sting shook hands with Luger, and handed him the
bat. Sting walked to his corner, and Luger teased using
the bat on him. Luger rushed Sting before the bell, but
Sting dropkicked him to the floor. Luger stalled a lot on
the floor early on. Luger got on the mic and said that
Sting was trying to cut corners by using a clenched fist.
Luger then said they were in "Glasgow, England"
to get heel heat. Sting took the mic and informed Luger
he was in Scotland. Sting missed a Stinger splash on the
floor, and when he went for a top rope splash in the
ring, Luger got the knees up. Luger his Sting with a low
blow. They did the spot where the two collide on a
shoulderblock, and Sting falls into a headbutt on Luger's
groin. Sting got fired up, hitting a bulldog, but Luger
pulled the referee in the way of a Stinger splash,
knocking him out. Jeff Jarrett came out and hit Sting
with his guitar. Luger covered, but Sting kicked out.
Luger went for the torture rack, but Sting floated over
into a Scorpion Death Drop, but the referee got bumped
again as Sting came down. Jarrett ran back in and hit
Sting with a second guitar, and put Luger on top of
Sting. The ref woke up and counted the pin. Lex Luger is
the new WWA World Champion.
Jeremy Borash and Disco Inferno closed the show, and a
music video of highlights from the PPV ended the show.
