Ten Baby Dragons.

Ten new baby Dragons are in the crčche today,

all of the new dragons flown in by the fairy way.

A small puff of smoke a slight movement in the air,

And whoops all of the baby Dragons were there.

Most of them were a beautiful emerald green.

The red and brown babies I had never before seen.

The wise old fairies were as busy as the bees.

All wore a white dress down to their knees.

Stews of herbs were quickly prepared today.

Hungry little tummies will have their way.

Soon all the little dragons were fast asleep.

Many a fairy and leprechaun came to have a peep.

Satisfied that all was well with the baby newcomers,

I wished for them all many bright new summers.

Then I made my report to Her Majesty the Fairy Queen,

told her about the new dragons and all that I’d seen.

The Fairy Queen then cast a spell that was so old.

It would make the new Dragons wise and ever so bold.

No more would a young Dragon be killed by a knight.

No matter if his suit of armour was all shiny and bright.

The Fairy Queen now gave me a new title Dragon keeper.

She could of course have called me the very long sleeper.

This is the end of my short tale for today Sunday.

I will tell you lots more tomorrow that is if I may.

Now I am going home to my comfy old house.

I must tell this new story to my large family mouse.

Curiosity Shop.

The road was wet from a shower that had for five minutes, come suddenly from a sun filled morning. Stepping carefully, I avoided the many puddles and watched the slight mists that came from the wet road. There had been no thunder just a heavy fall of rain that sometimes appear out of nowhere on a sunny hot day. In the fields to the left of me, I could see sheep busily grazing on the wet grass. I myself was not wet, as I had stood under a tree during the downpour. I was on my way to visit a curiosity shop in the next village. I could have used my car but as the day was so warm, I decided to walk the three miles I was in need of a little exercise and this was as good an opportunity to take rather than use my car.

The village of Green Street Green came into view the roads here were wet so they must have caught the shower as I did under my tree. Passing the Baker’s shop and the Dairy I saw the curiosity shop. The shop was open and I walked into the somewhat dark interior. As I pushed open the shop door a small bell jangled in the back of the house. By opening the door I had made contact between two electric wires this had caused the bell to ring. “Good morning,” I called and heard a voice saying, “I will be with you in a moment have a look around.” I had been in this shop a number of times and always managed to find something out of the ordinary.

The shop was filled old pictures, some hung on the wall many were stacked in a long shelf. Old brass horse medallions were also hanging on the wall along with small pieces of china and cups and saucers. Old milk jugs and all the bric a brac that one finds in these old shops, under a long glass topped counter were medals some from the First World War. Next to the medals, there were a few pocket watches and an old compass. The compass interested me the most it was of peculiar design and the needle that points to North was standing still on South. The owner who I had seen many times came from the back and asked me whether I had found anything. I pointed to one of the pocket watches and asked to see it closer. The watch after I had wound it with a small watch key that the man produced started ticking away. I said that I would buy the watch if it was not too expensive and the compass. “The compass does not work you know” he had a pleasant voice and I answered that I would take it apart and clean it. Perhaps I will be lucky I heard myself say.

With the pocket watch and winding key and the compass, I left the shop and made my way back home. The roads were now dry and I arrived home in a couple of hours. Making myself something to eat I sat at my kitchen table and looked at the watch and the compass. Opening the back of the watch I found that it was quite old and had a chain driven drive something one rarely sees today.   I decided that I would clean the watch (A hobby of mine) and re-oil it. Then I carefully opened the compass and found a small piece of paper with some writing on it was blocking the mechanism that kept the magnet needle moving. Taking the paper out of the compass, I saw that the compass needle was now pointing north. The compass was I am happy to say now working properly.

I carefully opened the piece of paper and saw written in a strange hand the words (Follow the Needle it will show you the way.). I looked at the compass more carefully especially the needle. The needle slowly started to spin then slowed down it was now pointing to the west. I took out one of my maps of England and placed the compass onto it. The needle still pointed west and I moved the compass slowly across the map. The needle of the compass stopped and pointed once again to the north. Taking the map and my new compass I put on my hiking gear and locking the doors of my house I walked off. Every couple of miles I checked the compass with the map. I eventually arrived at Cardiff in South Wales and the needle spun around and then stopped. I had followed the needle of the compass now what? I then saw the advert on a building Fairies for sale magic potions for all occasions. I went into the building and saw much to my surprise four Fairies that were trapped in a large cage. Taking my magic wand from my pocket I freed the Fairies and then I saw the compasses that were for sale. It was in such a compass that one of the Fairies had jammed the paper to stop the needle from moving. The compass was considered to be useless and was thrown away. A man found the compass and sold it to the second hand shop. I had unknowingly been the means to free the Fairies. My curiosity as to why the compass did not work freed the four Fairies from the magic shop in Cardiff. I then caught a train back to London and back home to my house on Dartford Heath. Her Majesty the Fairy Queen who thanked me for rescuing the Fairies awaited me. The compass is still in my desk along with the pocket watch both work quite well. The compass is for sale if anyone would like to buy it, the pocket watch I will keep.

More Rabbits.

In Fairyland The Rabbit population is getting out of hand.

Why some of the Fairies want all of the Rabbits banned.

Food was the main problem Rabbits they ate such a lot.

This troubled the Fairies and put them all on the spot.

The wise old fairies were called in for some good advice.

The wise old fairies even considered feeding the Rabbits rice.

They found the solution with some fresh packets of seeds.

When fully grown the seeds turned out to be Swedes.

Now Rabbits love Swedes they even eat them raw.

This solved the Fairies problem that is for sure.

Swedes are vegetables that grow in the ground.

Now rutabaga or Swedes are everywhere to be found.

Rabbits have no known enemies in Fairyland its true.

But growing Swedes for the Rabbits is for the Fairies quite new.

Gnomes are the only ones in Fairyland that eat meat.

For them a nice fat Rabbit would be such a real treat.

I with the fairies help passed a very simple new law.

That Gnomes are not to eat rabbit meat any more.

All the Rabbits I called to a hurried meeting

No more tasty flowers were for their eating.

My Family mouse told me that Rabbits like Cheddar cheese

They would share their rations just for the rabbits to please.

The Furry Rabbits in Fairyland may now forever stay,

It would be such a great pity to send them all away.

Rabbits are cuddly and have such nice fur coats,

In Fairyland they even mix with the wild stoats.

Apart from lettuce carrots and now Swedes.

Small portions of cheese see to their needs.

Peace has returned to the Fairyland of today

And not one furry Rabbit will be turned away.

Wizards At The Royal Albert Hall.

Frying eggs and bacon with some mushrooms for my breakfast, I suddenly felt the presence of some one in my kitchen. Turning from the stove, Shamus my Leprechaun friend smiled a big smile and greeted me with the words, “We have work to do.” I returned Shamus’s greeting and place some more rashers of bacon and a couple of eggs in the frying pan. “Knowing you Shamus, you have not eaten this morning, spread few more slices of bread with butter and we will have breakfast together. The tea is made, as you know I like plenty of sugar in my tea, get yourself a cup and saucer and pour the tea. The eggs, bacon, and mushrooms are ready and we can eat. Shamus badly wanted to tell me something but I would not hear of it until we had both eaten our breakfast.

We washed and dried the breakfast dishes and sat ourselves down in the easy armchairs. Shamus asked me whether I had heard of the meeting of the Witches and the Wizards that was to take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I had not heard of any such meeting and asked him to tell me about it. Shamus had heard of letters of invitation that had been sent to specially chosen Witches and Wizards. The Witches and Wizards were to meet on the third Sunday in July. “They are up to no good,” I heard Shamus saying. “ I would love to attend the meeting but as soon as they were to see me they would know that I am a Leprechaun and would not let me into the building.” “You could smuggle yourself in and listen to what they plan on doing, it is surely something bad.” “How would I be able to get in? I have no invitation and can not perform any magic in front of the Witches and Wizards.” Shamus smiled his huge smile once again. “You will have an invitation and a perfect disguise, no one will be able to know that you are you.”

Two days later Shamus visited me again, I was working in my garden, and it was his whistling of an Irish melody that caught my attention. “Wash your hands and then take a look at your personal invitation to the Royal Albert Hall.” Shamus after I had cleaned myself up took an envelope from his large pocket and gave it to me. In bold copperplate writing my name and address had been written on the envelope. Opening the envelope I took out a card also written in the same copperplate handwriting inviting His Excellency the mighty Wizard Bernard Shaw to the Royal Albert Hall. Under the invitation were the words (six in the evening on the third Sunday in July,) The invitation was signed by Magicorius, Wizard extraordinary Sussex England. “Where on earth did you manage to get this at such short notice”? I asked Shamus, I managed to get hold of an invitation from a Wizard that is rather old and thinks that I am his apprentice. The invitation is exactly like the one he had it took me over an hour to copy it, No one will know it is a fake.

“Shamus If I am asked to perform any magic I would not be able to, as they would know that I have learned all my magic from the Fairies. It would give the game away as soon as I did any magic no matter how simple.” “Come with me. Her Majesty Queen Feeanna wants to see us. Walking into Fairyland with Shamus by my side we came to the old oak tree where I had often met Her Majesty. We did not have to wait long a blue flash a puff of smoke and Her Royal Majesty Queen Feeana, in a beautiful flowered dress stood before us. We both bowed to Her Majesty. “You have been told of the Wizards and Witches meeting in the Royal Albert Hall in London?” She asked me. “Yes Your Majesty Shamus has told me about it and I now posses thanks to Shamus an invitation to the meeting. I am worried though that I might give myself away if I am asked to do anything magical.  Pointing her magic wand at me, Her Majesty said some words in the old language and suddenly my head was filled with the knowledge that any good Wizard would have. Smiling Her Majesty left us, as she had come, a flash of blue light a puff of smoke and Shamus and I were alone once more.

The third Sunday in July came and I took an early train to London. Shamus had done something with my hearing aids so that he would be informed of whatever was being said at the meeting everything that I heard would be transmitted to him. How he did this I do not know, probably with magic. I arrived at the Royal Albert Hall in good time and entering the building I was asked by a Wizard for my invitation. I showed him my invitation and was told to go and take a seat and make myself comfortable. Soon the hall was filled with Witches and Wizards all were dressed in ordinary clothing no one looked at all like a Witch or a Wizard. The hall was filled with people and in the middle of the hall was a boxing ring. Standing in the boxing ring with a microphone to his lips was the Wizard Magicorius. He started speaking in low pleasant voice. Good evening to you all, I call the Wizard Morgenfell to speak to you about a plan he has to get rid of all the Fairies on this Earth. Morgenfell climbed into the ring. I thought that he looked a little young to be a Wizard. He had an evil grin on his face as he told us that he had found a way to turn all of the water on this earth to ice. As you all know the Fairies go every year just before it is winter to the underground caves under the Himalayan Mountains. If we turn all of the water to ice the Fairies will have to leave this earth for good. He then asked us to write down the chemicals needed to turn all water into ice, Even the water in the atmosphere would turn to ice and fall either as snow or hale stones. This I thought to myself was a wicked and evil plan. Shamus had heard every word that was said in the hall. Her Majesty went to see Mother Nature and told her of the plans of the evil Wizards and Witches. Mother Nature smiled and told Her Majesty that one of the ingredients would straight away vanish from the earth. No Witch or Wizard would be able to make any thing that would turn water to ice. I felt the pull as Her Majesty used her magic to bring me back to Dartford Heath. Both Her Majesty and Shamus quickly told me of Mother Nature’s plan to get rid of one of the things needed to turn water into ice. No Wizard or Witch that had been in the Royal Albert Hall could ever turn water into ice by using any chemicals. I with Shamus wished her Majesty a good night and went back home to my house where with some ginger biscuits and hot sweet tea we sat and spoke about Wizards and Witches. We both agreed that there were many good Witches and Wizards that used plants and roots, flowers and berries, to cure people that were sick. Shamus left the way he had come and I went to bed to sleep. If I had not found the rail tickets to London in the morning, I would have thought that the whole thing was a dream.

Helpful Fairies.

The Fairies are gathering herbs to help a sick old Witch.

These herbs are only to be found at the bottom of a ditch.

I watched a line of small Fairies busy looking all around.

With their keen little eyes they quickly covered the ground.

Soon a cobweb sack was filled with these herbs so rare.

One very happy Witch went back to her home without a care.

The Fairies do not play all day in the hot summer’s sun.

But I will be the first to admit they do have a lot of fun.

They help all that are walking through the woods so green.

Especially at harvest time when the blackberries they clean.

The Squirrels they may tease and many a fresh nut they hide.

But when it comes to helping they are on the Squirrels side.

Butterflies are shown to the flowers where nectar is at its best.

Even the small birds are shown where to build the best nest.

Everyone in the woods is helped by the Fairies magic power.

We all know who gives the colours to each and every flower.

Who shows the spiders where to build their cobwebs of silk?

Who first taught the early Farmers their cows to daily milk?

Yes it was the Fairies that showed the old World how to live.

From the Fairies we all learned that it was better to daily give.

Now this is the end of my story about the Fairies of today.

Please forgive my weird rambling but I have so much to say.
