"Good boy" - gewöhnlich
lobt man mit solchen Worten ein folgsames Haustier.
In der gleichnamigen Videoinstallation zeigt Gerald Zahn
Passanten die eine geschäftige Straße entlang
eilen. Auf gleicher Höhe mit einer Skulptur, die einen
Tierkopf zeigt, strecken viele der Vorbeigehenden ihre Hand
aus, um das eigenartige, bereits abgenützte Gesicht
rasch, beinahe zwanghaft, zu berühren und streicheln.
Diesen für die Anonymität einer großen Stadt
ungewöhnlich emotionalen Gefühlsausbruch dokumentiert
der Künstler in einem fließend montierten Video
und spürt damit eine der verborgenen Geschichten des
öffentlichen Raums auf.

"Good boy" are usually
words of praise for an obedient pet, a simple expression
of the owner's affection.
In the video installation by the same title, Gerald Zahn
shows a flow of people on a busy street, passing by a peculiar
statue with a protruding animal face. When in line with
the statue a lot of passers-by reach out and stroke the
already worn-out animal's nose with surprising casualness
and unexpected affection. The artist observes this warm
emotional outburst in the context of anonymity and constraints
of the big city. In this gently flowing video he uncovers
one of the hidden emotional narratives of the public space.
