Hie und da ist an den Bäumen
Manches bunte Blatt zu seh'n,
Und ich bleibe vor den Bäumen
Oftmals in Gedanken steh'n. |

Be seen on the trees.
And often I stand before the trees
Lost in thought. |

on peut voir mainte feuille multicolore
et je demeure devant les arbres
Plongé souvent dans mes pensées. |
Schaue nach dem einen Blatte,
Hänge meine Hoffnung dran;
Spielt der Wind mit meinem Blatte,
Zitt'r' ich, was ich zittern kann. |
I look for a single leaf
On which to hang my hope;
If the wind plays with my leaf,
I tremble all over. |
Je contemple une feuille
Et y attache tout mon espoir;
Que le vent joue avec ma feuille
Et je tremble tant qu'il se peut. |
Ach, und fällt das Blatt zu Boden,
Fällt mit ihm die Hoffnung ab;
Fall' ich selber mit zu Boden,
Wein' auf meiner Hoffnung Grab. |
Ah! if the leaf falls to ground,
My hope falls with it;
And I, too, sink to the ground,
Weeping at my hope's grave. |
Ah et si la feuille tombe au sol,
Avec elle s'effondre mon espoir;
Je tombe alors moi-même au sol
Et pleure sur le tombeau de mon espoir. |
