Almog, born to a family of Russian pioneers in Palestine, and Romanian-Russian immigrants, studied classical painting in Tel Aviv as a child, served in the Israeli Navy and after graduating from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1986, founded the "Institute of Strategic Research" (1990).

Within this framework Almog develops art concepts which reconstruct complex social phenomena, including "Armchair Assassinations" (symbolic execution of antisemitic writers, 1988), "Shma Israel" (Jewish mysticism, 1989),
"Birth of a Myth" (creation of a cult figure, 1994) and the follow-up "The Psychonaut and his Mindnavigator" (1995), "Block Brut" (autoerotic fatalities, 1997) und "Shaheed" (bus bombing terror in Israel, 1997).
