>>>  For Netbook users, there are special requirements regarding adequate applications.

1.) Disk space usually is a matter of concern.  For instance, the first ASUS EeePC only had a 4GB internal SSD, providing about 1 GB for the installation of additional applications, personal files, etc.

2.) Netbooks are meant as portable devices - usually in addition to a desktop PC or notebook at home and/or in the office.  Therefore, the ability of having the programs, personal settings and documents always at hand on an external USB device or SD card (without applying complicated synchronization methods), is a great asset.

3.) Netbooks do have limited ressources also in terms of performance.  As such, in particular when running MS Windows, it is not recommendable to have too many additional applications installed.

>>>  The answer to those requirements are Web Apps, running virtually "in the cloud" and Portable Apps, running natively but also from any removable device and without installation into the OS.  Both solutions do have their specific pros and contras, so best is to use a combination of both.
