Vienna

Vienna is one of central Europe`s most beautiful capital cities. As a visitor of this city, you will be enchanted by the great artistic heritage of the city. Here awaits you a wealth of monuments testifying to Viennese history, culture, and music history, most of which are concentrated in a relatively small area.

Vienna was originally a Celtic settlement on the site of the present-day city.
Under the Romans it became the garrison of Vindobona, supporting the nearby town of Carnuntum. In the 13th century, Vienna came under the control of the Habsburg dynasty.

Vienna is the capital of Austria, and is also one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primary city; with a population of about 1.7 million it is by far the largest city in Austria as well as its cultural, economic and political center.

The heart and historical city of Vienna, the inner city, was once surrounded by walls and open fields in order to deny cover to potential attackers. The walls were razed in 1857, making it possible for the city to expand and eventually merge with the surrounding villages. In their place, a broad boulevard called the Ringstrasse was built, along which imposing public and private buildings, monuments, and parks now lie.
These buildings include the Rathaus (city hall), the Burgtheater, the University, the Parliament, the twin museums of natural history and fine art, and the Staatsoper (State Opera House). It is also the location of the Hofburg, the former imperial palace.

The mainly Gothic Stephansdom (St. Stephans Cathedral) is located at the centre of the city, on Stephansplatz.
