CK, thanks for that very insightful posting of yours. I agree with you
on most points. Surely there are *a lot* of different motives why people
write Free/Open Source software...

Hm... that point about MIDI was interesting. Aren't there really any
good Free sequencers out there? :(

3D modeling: what about Blender? :)

Looks like this discussion has evolved (mutated?) to something
different from the initial topic. I would like to point out that Free
Software does not have to mean giving away things, anyway. There are
many companies that have successfully integrated Free Software into
their business model. Systems In Motion (the company that I work for) is
one example, but there are many others.

Uhm... I know we all know that, I just thought it had to be said, since
I personally believe that commercializing Free Software is not only not
bad but actually very good (if it remains Free, that is... ) -- people
are willing to pay for quality. :)

Ah well.... gotta get myself another coffee
