These Porsche-desingned vehicle (plus several other versions ) were produced for German Army
in large quantities (Steyr made 12 500) during 1941-44. Co-producer was Auto Union's Sigmar
factory in Germany. The Kfz.70 Mannschaftswagen was the most numerous. Together with similar
types by Daimler-Benz and Phänomen , this eight-seater replaced to a large extent the Germans'
earlier universal heavy cross-contry cars . In 1944 Steyr build 6400 Modell 2000A 2-ton trucks
 a longer wheelbase derivative.
