I know very little about this game, but since I am generally interested in games with ASCII graphics, I did not want to leave it unmentioned. It was created by George Moromisato, who is also the author of one of my favorite Windows 3.x games, Lander.
In 2004, he rewrote it in C++ for Windows. Nevertheless Anacreon is still essentially text-based and therefore one of the very few computer games accessible to the blind.

The mechanics of the game are simple. Each player assumes the role of a totalitarian ruler of a small galactic empire. Every player in turn examines status reports and issues orders each year, a simple process that includes determining which worlds can become colonies and deploying fleets to conquer them. Once all players have taken their turn, the computer updates all the worlds in the galaxy and the next year begins. There are no formal victory conditaions in the game, so a game doesn't ever have to end.

Anacreon: Reconstruction 4021 is an old, but excellent space strategy game where you play the part of a budding Emperor, a would-be empire-builder. Your goal is the galactic conquest, and to do this you have fleets of fighter squadrons, jumpships, hunterkillers, and more at your disposal. While initially beginning with only a few old ships left over from a previous era, there are worlds out there to be conquered and enlightened with the Empire's technology, and soon they'll be assembling factories, mining metals, and building starships. Of course, other empires are out there also, and they'll be fighting to develop technologies, conquer worlds, and unify the galaxy before you.
