There are many maze games where you have to push objects, block force fields, pick up things and reach the exit. Soleau's Axium Adventures is one of the better ones. It is a pure puzzle game never testing your reflexes, and its mazes are built of only few ingredients:
- Key
- There is one on each level. Before you pick it up, it acts as a block for Meteor Balls.
- Crates
- They can be pushed exactly the way as their counterparts in Soko-ban, however the player does not move when pushing things.
- Meteor Balls
- Once pushed, they will move till they hit a wall, a crate, a cone, or the key.
- Cones
- They cannot be moved, but all the cones vanish after the green button is pushed. This is irreversible.
- Lasers
- They cannot be passed and have to be blocked with crates or magma balls.
- Transport Holes
- On some levels, they will allow the player, but not objects, to pass under lasers or other obstacles.
- Consol Panel
- If you reach here, and have the key, you have solved the puzzle.
I have played only on a PC, not on a Mac. It always runs in full screen, if your screen resolution is higher than 640×480, the rest of the screen will be filled with a solid dark blue. This is a bit irritating, but not really bad. There is a demo that explains all the elements of the game, and the first four levels have a solution button.
Like all Soleau games, Axium Adventures is shareware. The free version, which you can download from the Soleau homepage, gives you ten of the 50 levels of the full version.
