Bomtris is rather mysterious. It starts with the name: Is it Bomtris or Bombtris? The in-game graphics clearly say Bomtris, but on their website, the developers consistently referred to it as Bombtris. But then, they could never devide whether their group should be named Firesoft or Fire-Soft either In any case Bomtris is the better handle, since there is a PC game named Bombtris from about the same time.
Yes and then it was gone for a long time. In 2001 or 2002, the Firesoft website went down, and since then all of their games have been missing in action. The single exception is the shooter Escape, their magnum opus. You can read a bit about the group there.
But nothing ever vanished completely in the digital world, so it was just a matter of time till it would turn up somewhere. And it did, and here it is.
Bomtris used to be shareware, and it has a rather long waiting time at the title screen. The authors later declared it freeware, but had lost the source code in a harddrive crash and so could not remove this, ahem, feature any more. The game itself is a basic Tetris with two additions: a bomb and the cement drop, which can sometimes be useful to fill in holes.
