Full Contact was not actually Team17's first game, Miami Chase was, a top-down action racing game in the vein of GTA, but casting you as the cop instead of the crook. But Miami Chase was not yet released under the Team17 label, and they themselves have always counted Full Contact as their first.
Team17 grew out of a demo group called Seventeen Bit Software (that one bit better), which still features on the menu screen, and in none of their games their demo origin is as present as here, from the looping video title to the lense flare effects on the gameplay background. It was quite a sensation in its time, not least for the fact that Amiga-original games were still the exception and not the rule. The sensation was mostly limited to the UK, however, on the large German Amiga market the game made little impact.
Over time, Full Contact has become half-forgotten. Better fighting games followed, not least Team17's own Body Blows. But at the time, it was one of the best, and its definitely unique graphics are still impressive.
