Now available for IBM 640K hi-res VGA: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Deluxe Edition $79.95 suggested retail. More villains, more clues, more FUN! Advertisement in COMPUTE, October 1990
Even before the enhanced version, there was a deluxe version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, released right at the end of 1990. It ran in hi-res VGA, featured digitized National Geographic photos (which looked surprisingly good in 16 colors, of which six were used for the interface and therefore always had to remain the same) and Smithsonian folk music appropriate to the locations for a wide variety of sound cards including Roland and Pro Audio Spectrum. It was not a remake, but actually a slightly different game in interface and gameplay.
1992 it was re-released on CD. Since I have this, but not the
floppy version it is difficult for me to say which features were
added. This version needs a small install for the settings,
but otherwise runs directly off the CD. In 1993
the Deluxe Edition was released
for Macintosh.
In 1995 there was a CD-ROM Edition
of Where in the World
for Windows. As far as I know, this one is fairly identical with
the Deluxe Edition as well.
