Digital Nightmares
Digital Nightmares was a German group that was,
under that name, active between 1996 and 1999. They still have a
website with some downloads.
The Members
- Michael Haar
- had already written his first game in 1993, Mission X, a vertically
scrolling shoot 'em up for
Atari ST that could run both in hi-res
monochrome and on the color screen. He was involved in most productions
of the group and later joined NEON Software. In 2005 he moved to 49Games.
- Ulrich Haar
- later joined Reakktor became technical director for the MMORPG Neocron.
- Rebecca Ludolphy
- joined a bit later. In 2001 she joined Thomas Kronenberg's company
intulo.
- Susanne Haar
- Was credited for the music in Knuddel's Quest.
- Holger Niesel
- is occasionally credited for music as well.
The Games
Digital Nightmares created lots of games, and some of them are lost.
Here I just pick a few that saw several versions.
- Kwiks
- A Qix clone originally for the
Atari Falcon. It was later ported to Windows
and adapted for Lomax as Lovely Girls.
- The Knuddel Series
- Knuddel is a cuddly (that's what his name means) creature who starred
in three games: Knuddel's Quest, Knuddel's Minigolf, and Knuddel's Lights.
- DNPCTris
- An SVGA Tetris for one or two players. It was
later published by Lomax as LomTrixx.
- PCTris 3D
- A Blockout clone, later published by Lomax
as 3D-Lomtris.
Lomax
In 1998, meanwhile defunct online vendor Lomax (famous for
Lomax Boulders) published four Windows shareware
games by Digital Nightmares that were adapted for this purpose:
- Lovely Girls (Kwiks)
- LomTrixx (DNPCTris)
- 3D-Lomtris (PCTris 3D)
- Mr. Ball (possibly created especially for Lomax)
