This hack is the product of over three years of work. The extent of the changes eclipses anything done in a ROM hack released to date. Final Fantasy was basically used as an "engine" to create a new NES RPG upon, so even those intimately familiar with Final Fantasy will be charting totally unfamiliar waters. The musical score is entirely new, as are the graphics, the levels, the dialogue, etc. This is truly a new RPG experience for the venerable NES.
I have always been fascinated when people create games for platforms that are usually considered obsolete. To this appeal, Dragoon X Omega II adds outstanding graphics matching, though not necessarily surpassing, those of Sweet Home. The big difference between RPGs on the NES and RPGs on the SNES was usually atmosphere. The latter had it, the former not. Dragoon X Omega II, just like Sweet Home, shows that the NES was perfectly capable of creating atmosphere. Just usually the developers didn't bother to.
