The Fallout Games
Fallout by Brad P. Taylor
The first game ever to bear the name Fallout, completely unrelated
to what would follow, was
Fallout by Brad P. Taylor, a
Columns clone with slightly altered gameplay for DOS in
1991. It was an improved sequel of the author's own
Beyond Columns, but never became as popular.
Fallout: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game
What is usually associated with the term Fallout in the gaming world
is of course the series of post-apocalyptic
role-playing games (originally) by Interplay.
Here on Astoria
- Fallout (1997)
- Originally designed to be based on and showcase GURPS, this
unofficial sequel to Wasteland was hailed as a major
rejuvenation of the CRPG genre in its time and started a legend.
- Fallout 2 (1998)
- The somewhat hasty sequel to Fallout. It compromised the Fallout
world and its design was partly rather shoddy, but its greatly enhanced
gameplay still endeared it to Fallout fans.
- Fallout Tactics (2001)
- Not an RPG, but a squad-based tactical game set in the Fallout world.
It was generally considered dissappointing, but is somewhat grudgingly
accepted and enjoyed a modest popularity with modders.
- Fallout Van Buren (2003)
- Interplay's dropped project for a sequel to the two original Fallout
games, probably the best documented unreleased game ever.
- Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (2004)
- The game Van Buren was dropped for. May be mentioned on Fallout
forums only in the company of expletives.
- Fallout 3 (2008)
- The long-delayed next in line of the Fallout series, now finally
released by Bethesda (of Daggerfall fame).
Lots of excitement on the Forums.
- The Unwashed Villagers
- This was a Fallout player clan in the early times, made famous by
a special encounter in Fallout 2. As of 2011, they still have a message board.
External
- A Fallout site
- I created in July 2004. It has some
downloads and
information mainly about the stuff that didn't make it into
the final versions. In May 2007 I added a
Van Buren section, and
that was pretty much the last update.
- No Fanbois Allowed
- is a Fallout blog I started in August 2011.
I update it witch a certain regularity and plan to
transfer all the info there over time.
- Fallout-related entries
- on The ISA-Bus,
my main blog. Since I have a seperate Fallout blog, these are mainly
just announcements for things I put up for download, or how
popular they are later.

Below are thumbnails for Fallout-related downloads on Download Central.
Apart from the demo, these are Fallout-themed mini games
Russian programmers created while waiting for Fallout Tactics. Note that
I have a seperate
Fallout downloads
page with the patches and numerous utilities.
