Final Fantasy VI (the US version was given the number III to make it all the more confusing) was the last FF game for the SNES before Squaresoft changed to the Sony Playstation. Many people consider it one of the best.

Terra is not really the main character of the game (it might seem this way at the beginning), but she is pretty important for the storyline.

It's one of the traditions of Final Fantasy games to have two characters named Wedge and Vicks. Here, you get to control them right at the beginning of the game, as two soldiers in the company of Terra. That's it.

Locke, the world's greatest treasure hunter (he doesn't like to be called thief). He is really the main hero of the game.

Edgar, the King of Figaro. Being the only character who can use "tools," he is quite a formidable fighter. His castle is also a vehicle; it can travel underground, the only way to pass mountains before you have an airship.

Sabin, Edgar's brother, who would rather be a karate fighter than a king. His "blitzes" are very efficient, but it's a nuisance to memorize the keystrokes.

It is said that Shadow would slit his mother's throat for a nickel. He is not very reliable, but will turn up now and then to fight on your side, once even saving your whole party. He is accompanied by his dog Interceptor, who is capable of doing incredible damage.

Cyan is a gallant swordsman. His town and family was destroyed by the empire.

Gau grew up among wild animals. He has the ability to learn his adversaries' skills (though only in one particular location). In other Final Fantasy games, this is called Blue Magic.

Banon is an important figure in the Returner movement. For a while, he will be in your party, and you have to keep him alive at all costs. He has a very useful heal spell, unfortunately you cannot control him outside combat. He is the closest the game comes to an NPC party member.

Don't ask. Just don't ask.

Celes, a former imperial general.
![]() |
Setzer, a free-roaming, casino-dwelling spirit, owner of the world's only airship. His weapons are dice, darts and a slot machine.

Strago, a wisened old mage.
![]() |
Relm, Strago's granddaughter. Her speciality is sketching her enemies; their images will then fight on her side for one turn.

Would you believe that you are looking at the supreme commander of the imperial forces, General Leo? No, he never becomes a member of your group, but you get to control him for one battle. |
This list is not complete; as for now, I have played the game only to the end of the World of Balance. As far as I know, there are three more characters turning up in the World of Ruin, they are not included here.
