Though not spectacular in any case, this game mostly suffers under its being released as a sequel to Wasteland. It uses the Wasteland engine, but was developed by a different team. It does offer some slight improvements over its predecessor:
In all other aspects, a comparison must be unfavorable. Graphics were VGA as opposed to Wasteland's EGA, but inferior.
The game world is a lot smaller. Unlike the fairly authentic southwest of Wasteland, this game is set in a parodistic, walled-in Florida (which seems to have been a popular butt of jokes long before the 2000 election) with only two main and two minor locations. The main locations are Miami and the Killer Klown Kollege.
The party has been reduced to five, three PCs and two NPCs, and cannot be split up any more. Gameplay is tougher, because you mutate all the time and lose your ability to heal by resting. Even though random encounters give you some loot here, you will be spending it all at the doctors, which are only accessible during day. And whenever you travel over the world map, there is the chance to encounter a Killer Klown, an encounter that spells certain doom for a low level party.
There is little more to say about this game; read the walkthrough if you want to. True Wasteland fans will certainly want to try it once. I did, but it could not hold my attention long enough for me to actually finish it. The third game using the Wasteland engine, Escape from Hell, is probably more interesting.
only about 20% of the depth and breadth of the Wasteland game.
