Female protagonists.

Gabrielle has some of the characteristics typical for Spanish games: A sexy title screen, based on the work of a renowned fantasy artist, a female protagonist, arcade gameplay. But it isn't. It's a French game, published by UBISoft, developed by people otherwise engaged with this company too, though their names indicate that they were probably not born in France.

S. L. Coemelck also wrote the code for Zombi and Manhattan 95. Miroslav Randjelovic also created the graphics for the adventure game Masque. Maybe he later wound up at Disney's; a person of the same name is credited for animations in A Goofy Movie, 1995. As for Remy Lanne, who created the music (the title song is an adaption of Madonna's Like a Virgin), he is not credited anywhere else.

Siren Song

Boris Vallejo's Siren Song was the, umm, inspiration for
the title screen of Gabrielle.

The title screen is based on Boris Vallejo's Siren Song. Miroslav Randjelovic took only one of the characters, flipped her, and added the wings, which are consequently of considerably lower quality. The rest, including the tree-trunk on which she sits, is digitized from the painting.

Siren Song and the Demo Scene

Siren Song (1979) is quite a popular painting in the demoscene. It has been digitized at least three times for Commodore 64 demo pics:
