IAGO

What is it?
An Othello for the Macintosh, 1984. This game is from the United States.
What computer or emulator will it run on?
Probably any Mac ever built. The fonts look nicer in system 7 or later.

If the timestamp on the program file is correct, this is one of the earliest Macintosh games ever. Besides the timestamp, there is no other indication. The about screen just ensures us that this game is in the public domain, and we should feel free to give it to our friends.

I have included the menu in the screenshot, since it is quite different from the usual. There's even a seperate entry for quitting! Instructions will give you a three-screne documentation that explains most of the other menu entries:

DESCRIPTION

Iago is a strategic capture game played on a variable size board on which you attempt to bracket your opponents players between your own. All those bracketed are converted to your color in the eight possible directions. Moves must result in at least one conversion. When no such move exists, the turn is forfeited. The game is complete when neither player can move for lack of empty spaces or a converting move. The player with the most pieces wins. Moves are made by pointing to a square with the mouse and clicking the mouse button once. A timer runs on each player but it is not necessary to play against the clock unless it challenges you.

LEVELS & BOARD SIZES

There are three different levels at which you may play. Select them from the MenuBar. You may also select the size board that you wish from 8×8 to 12×12. Games may be restarted from the Play Menu by selecting New Game. To play another human rather than Macintosh, you may choose Another Human from the Play Menu as well. Tally displays the number of games won by each color. The Journal Menu allows you to play back the current game, quickly or more slowly so you can watch it carefully. At any point in the game you may back up one round (two moves) only.

JOB SECURITY

Invariably, you will be playing this challenging capture game when others (like your boss) would rather that you are working on your sales forecast, a report, or some other mundane daily necessity. To avoid the embarassment of being caught in the middle of a "cerebral wrestling match" with Macintosh, choose Hide the Boss is coming from the Job Security Menu and compose a very pensive "spreadsheet designing" look on your face. It must be noted that like dentist appointments, this will work only a few times before management gets wise to it, so you might turn sound off and avoid discovery. ENJOY.

I've played Iago on anything from my Macintosh SE to my Performa 6400. Since it uses scaled fonts, it looks nicer on a system that supports anti-aliasing, that is System 7 or better:
