Depending on the settings, Jewels can simply be a standard Ataxx.
But it can also have up to four players, and it can have the
special tiles
:
- Color Change
- Randomly changes the Jewel Color. This is the one Special Tile that may save your game, because if you have been eliminated from the games there is always a chance that another JEWEL might change to YOUR Color.
- Teleports
- Transports the Jewel to another location on the board.
- Flips
- Flips the Jewel OFF the board and out of Play.
- Super Flip
- Flips a 9 square area OFF the board
Personally, I couldn't quite figure out those special tiles,
what triggers them, what there point is supposed to be. I quickly
disabled them. What remains is a decent Ataxx that actually gives
you a chance to win.
There are two executives in the archive. _JEWELS_.EXE is the actual game. JEWELS.EXE is a front end I found quite useless since all the configuration is done within the game itself. It is the only way to read the documentation, however. Still, for everyday use it's a better idea to bypass it and start the game directly.
