Mikael Ekbom's Kalaha is a roundabout remarkable game. First and foremost, the style of presentation is absolutely unique. The only thing it reminds me of is the title screen of the Commodore 64 game Paradroid, and that's pretty far out to compare with a Mancala game. Actually, Kalaha is about the only Windows 3.1 game I know that looks even better in 9.x, as long as you have your Window borders set to the default silver. Then the whole game looks like a 3D button.
The style is even more interesting when you consider that the game is from 1993. 256-color desktop games have remained rare in Windows 3.1, but back then there were hardly any 256-color Windows games around at all. And those that emerged in that year aimed at arcade-like opulence, not subtle nuance.
