Lolo is a blue spherical creature who wants to rescue Lala ( a similar pink spherical creature) from the clutches of the evil King Egger. To do this he must first pass a maze of 50 levels of 11×11 tiles, on which he must collect all the Heart Framers, some of which will give him two Magic Shots. Once all the heart framers are collected, a jewel chest will open and give him a key or jewel. Mazes consist of various terrain and objects:
- Grass
- Lolo can walk freely on it, monsters cannot enter it.
- Sand
- Lolo's speed will be reduced to half, while monsters are not affected by it.
- Water
- Blocks Lolo and monsters but can be shot across. Lolo can push eggs into the water and step on them.
- Lava
- Like water, but nothing can be pushed into it.
- Trees
- Block Lolo, monsters, and Lolo's Magic Shot, but not the monsters' ranged attacks.
- Rocks
- Block Lolo, monsters, and any ranged attack.
- Emerald Framers
- Like rocks, but can be pushed by Lolo like Sokoban boxes.
- Monsters
- There are nine different monsters in the game. Some are harmless and function merely as obstacles, while the touch of others is lethal. Some even have a ranged attack that must be blocked with emerald framers. Some turn hostile only when all the heart framers have been collected. The Magic Shot will turn monsters into eggs for a while.
- Eggs
- Monsters in egg form can be pushed by Lolo like emerald framers. He can push them into water and step on them, but they will dissolve after a while.
Adventures of Lolo is just one title in the Japanese Eggerland series, which dates back to 1985 and started out on the MSX. But it was the title that made Eggerland known in the US, the only title previously released outside Japan was Eggerland Mystery on the MSX in 1987, in Europe only. In the following two years, there were two sequels on the NES, and in 1994, the first game was ported to Gameboy. In 2005, there was a very good fan remake for Windows.

On this site you will find a summary of all that I have learned about the games in the Egger Land and Adventures of Lolo series. I have also included links to information that may be helpful to someone who is playing through one of the games (e.g., instruction manuals, passwords, hints, map solutions).
- Game of The Week on Classic Gaming:
The graphics are relatively good, for a NES puzzle game. Lolo's sufficiently cute, the Great Devil is sufficiently menacing, and each enemy is drawn to fit its personality-Snakey lazily turns to look at you, while Don Medusa smiles wickedly and waits to toss a sword.
- Review on Apreche.net:
The adventures of lolo is the most amazing puzzle solving game ever. It was such a good game it had two sequels. And the sequels barely changed anything about the gameplay. If you like games like Chip's Challenge then you'll absolutely love lolo.
