The Adventures of Lolo was originally created by HAL for the Nintendo Enterntainment System. This game is a timeless classic and was one of the first in the puzzle genre to actually introduce an action element. This game will keep you addicted for hours upon hours, even after completing all 50 levels you will want more. With the remake you can have more, now there is a built in editor to make your own levels. The menu based system will make navigating all options and editing easy. The number of remakes of ancient games is legion, and I have developed a healthy scepticism in connection with these projects. Usually the makers feel obliged to take advantage of the graphics capabilities of modern computers, regardless of whether it actually benefits the game or not. The thought that 16-color graphics could be considered an art form (one that is still widely practiced in Japan) never occurs to them.

The DaBooda team avoided those pitfalls. Yes, they did improve the graphics, but discreetly and in style. They stayed with the low resolution, but used the higher color depth to an advantage. The color gradient in the title screen looks real good, and the levels look like an SNES game, and admittedly the SNES was far better with RPG-style graphics (which the Eggerland series uses) than the NES ever was. Ironically, they did a better job than HAL Laboratories themselves when they moved the Eggerland series to Windows in 1996.

In fact, the greatest grievance I felt (apart from the non-support of gamepads) came from the team sticking to close to the original: naming your character. Couldn't that have been done via keyboard, instead on NES-style with the arrow keys?
