Neuromancer was originally developed by the Cabana Boys (Troy A. Miles) for the Commodore 64 and published by Interplay 1988. Interplay then ported it to the PC, the Apple IIGS, and the Amiga. I suppose these three ports were all published 1989, but I have found the release date 1988 for the PC version too.
Once you're in cyberspace, in this game, you are running freeno bills, information that yields to your skill, the secrets of the known universe are here if you can earn them. A game within a gamea world within a world, that reveals the world that contains it. Quite artful like that!
A notepad is absolutely essential for playing Neuromancer, as there is a lot of information and WELL addresses to keep track of. Neuromancer is undoubtedly the best "hacking" game in existence, as the thrill of hacking into forbidden sites, editing databases to further your cause, and generally finding things out is exhilarating (and harmless, as opposed to real life). Overall, no cyberpunk fan should pass up this overlooked classic. Two thumbs up!
