Last Ninja was the most successful original game ever on the Commodore C64. In Europe the sales for the C64 version alone were in excess of 750,000 units and international multi-format sales exceeded 2,000,000 units. It won almost every award available and was critically acclaimed everywhere as an original, ground-breaking game. There is no C64 gamer that has not heard of Last Ninja. Even today, people still talk about the impact it had on the gaming world.Studio 3
I got interested in this game for the same reason I got interested in Zaxxon: it is an early isometric game, though not as early as Zaxxon. But it turned out that this game, little known on the PC, is quite a celebrity on the Commodore 64.
System 3 later changed their name to Studio 3. Their games include Constructor and Street Wars.
An Amiga version named Ninja Remix was released in 1990. It is essentially a port of the unreleased Atari ST version, done by Austrian developer Eclipse. It has been suggested that the late release date and different title are due to planned but scrapped enhancements for this platform.
A Sinclair ZX Spectrum version was planned and advertised a lot, but never finished. This makes The Last Ninja probably the only UK game of the 8-bit era that was available on several platforms but not the Spectrum. There were three sequels, 2, 3, and remix, available on most of the platforms of the day. 2002 there was a remake on the Xbox.
