Pac-Gal, Pac-Girl, Poke-Man
In 1982, Al J. Jiménez, about whom nothing can be found elsewhere,
wrote three very similar Pac-Man clones using character graphics:
- Pac-Gal, dated May 1982 and
mostly monochrome (only the power-ups are green on a color monitor)
was probably the original game. You choose the speed by entering a
number between 0 and 30000.
- Poke-Man is dated May 1982
as well. Unlike Pac-Gal it is quite colorful, and you choose the speed
from a menu with four options.
- Pac-Girl is dated September
26, 1982. It is mostly like Pac-Gal, but the characters are in high
intensity, and the speed menu is the same as in Poke-Man.
These are among the earliest Pac-Man
clones for the PC, along with Greg Kuperberg's PC-Man and TexaSoft's The Queen of Hearts
Maze Game.
