Apple ][

The Apple ][ was a fairly advanced Microcomputer, later versions had 80 column text and full upper/lowercase keyboards. Had it not been deliberately dropped by Apple, it might have developed into a more serious competition for the PC than the Macintosh.

The Apple ][ was produced in several versions from 1977 to 1993. It cost about twice as much as a Commodore 64, half as much as a Macintosh or average PC.

I have no experience with Apple ][ emulation, but you should find some help among the links at the bottom of this page.

The importance of the Apple ][ as a game platform began to wane in the mid-80s. Apple concentrated on the Macintosh and started neglecting it, the Amiga and the Atari ST had far better multimedia capacities, and with the NES, game consoles had become another competition. The Apple IIGS, brought out in 1986, didn't change things either.

Some RPG series like Ultima and Wizardry stuck to the Apple ][ as main platform; round 1990, they switched to the PC.
