I know very little about this game. I learned about its existence first through the readme file of Federico Filipponi's MacPipes. He said it was Pipeline and not so much Pipe Dream that was the direct model for his game. I tried to find out something about it, but "Pipeline Amiga" is a pretty hopeless search term. Finally I found a few screenshots in the Hall of Light.

The title screen credits John Dale and Spiny Norman. It shows no year, Hall of Light gives it as 1989. This would make it a very early clone, or even a parallel production with Pipe Mania. It is interesting that one John Dale is credited for the Music of the NES version of Pipe Dream. It is further interesting that the graphics for the NES, Macintosh and Hercules versions of Pipe Dream look a lot like Pipeline.

Actually Pipeline is not a clone at all. It is an early version of Pipe Dream, or Pipe Mania, as the original title is. John Dale and Spiny Norman—who in 1987 had created the rather successful Breakout clone Impact!—are the founders of The Assembly Line. Judging by the gameplay of MacPipes, Pipe Mania was indeed an improvement over Pipeline. In MacPipes, you cannot lay any pipes any more as soon as the juices start flowing. In Pipe Mania, you can race them till the bitter end.
