I once had this game listed as "John Romero's first game". Well, it isn't, and I'm not sure how I got the idea that it was. But John Romero's early games are generally little known, and this one at least a bit better. At least it's mentioned in the Apogee FAQ.
John Romero wrote Pyramids of Egypt in 1985, but it wasn't released until 1987, for the Apple ][. A DOS version (using CGA graphics) followed 1989. At this time, a better known game had already been published: Dangerous Dave.

Back when id was a small operation, Romero designed excellent top-down action games for the "Big Blue Disk" publisher Softdisk. This game, where you collect diamonds and power-ups while avoiding snakes, showcases Romero's knack for creating incredibly addictive games.
