Short Circuit is not your typical Shisen-Sho. It is a puzzle game with 33 levels that come in eight worlds. Worlds have different graphics, but also different rules. What they have in common is that you can remove tiles only according to Shisen-Sho rules: they must match, and they must be connected with no more than three lines. But the behavior of the tiles changes. In the second world, shown in the screenshot above, they are subject to gravity. Remove two tiles, and those above them will fall down.
Additionally there are three types of gadgets. The looking glass will give you a hint. The plug allows you to remove two matching tiles even if they cannot be connected with three lines. The bolt of lightning will remove a random pair of tiles.
Graphics are uncommon too, there is no reference to MahJongg at all. Technically, they are rather odd. Short Circuit always fills the whole screen, which looked a bit weird on the 1152×864 resolution of my Performa 6400. It tends to disable several things, like the standard screenshot function or the menu bar during actual gameplay. The screenshot above was taken with Flash-It (unlike S.C.Out, it couldn't disable that) and then edited for size.
About this File
What you can download here is version 1.3 from 1997. There should be an update history enclosed, but it isn't. I didn't remove it, I found the archive like this. If I ever find a complete archive, I will replace it.
Short Circuit is shareware. I don't know the exact amount of the shareware restrictions. You get a little nag screen at the beginning, reminding you that it is shareware and telling you how often you have played it, that is, how often you started the program. I don't know how it keeps track, nor if it disables itself after a number of times.
