This could be seen as a sequel or a modified re-release of Wolfenstein 3D. It used exactly the same engine and the same main character, but different maps and a different storyline.
It's World War II and you are B.J. Blazkowicz, the Allies' most valuable agent. In the midst of the German Blitzkrieg, the Spear that pierced the side of Christ is taken from Versailles by the Nazis and secured in the impregnable Castle Wolfenstein. According to legend, no man can be defeated when he has the Spear. Hitler believes himself to be invincible with the power of the Spear as his brutal army sweeps across Europe.
Your mission is to infiltrate the heavily guarded Nazi stronghold and recapture the Spear from an already unbalanced Hitler. The loss of his most coveted weapon could push him over the edge. It could also get you ripped to pieces.
Spear of Destiny was released as a retail game, not shareware. There was a two-level playable demo which was quite unusual at the time, when most demos were non-interactive. Because of this demo, Spear of Destiny is often mistaken for shareware, which it isn't.
Apart from this, versions for other platforms do not seem to exist. Mission 2: Return to Danger has somehow been ported to the Mac, probably just as a regular Wolfenstein 3D mod. There is a World Builder game for black & white Macs of the same name that has absolutely nothing to do with the Spear of Destiny we are talking about.
RTD/TUC
Spear of Destiny was distributed by FormGen Corp. In 1994, this company independently created two additional missions (Return to Danger and The Ultimate Challenge, or RTD/TUC for short). All information on this is a bit vague. Some say the two new missions were sold seperately first, others say they were only available on a CD version containing them all, and a scenario editor or random level generator.
The interesting thing is that many graphics were changed in these two add-ons: SS wore a more realistic black, guards wore green instead of brown, treasure was replaced with radios, bombs, and little rockets, the strange orbs that give you extra lives with pills. Of course there were some new bosses. That weapons and boots were now a shiny blue was a less good idea. You can compare all the graphics on the PC Wolfenstein Page.

I never found a dedicated Spear of Destiny fan page, but most of the Wolfenstein 3D sites have info about it as well.
- id software's SoD Page where you can still buy the game as a download.
- Spear Of Bullshit is an old hackup of the shareware Spear of Destiny Demo. It has Pepsi machines, gold metal walls, Nazi floppies and a Macintosh end boss.
