Seeing that there are two games, Strip Fighter and Strip Fighter II,
it would be reasonable to assume that the latter is a sequel to the
former. Wrong. The two games have nothing in common (except a more
or less erotic element), and Strip Fighter II is seven years older
than Strip Fighter.
Strip Fighter is a Spanish
strip poker game for the
Amiga, 2002;
while Strip Fighter II
is a Japanese fighting game for the Turbogfx-16/PC Engine from
1995. Why then is it called Strip Fighter II? Because, as one
reviewer put it, it has more than a passing resemblance
to
Street Fighter II. And this resemblance, of course, is completely
intentional.
Strip Fighter II is part of a series of parodies on well known games and game series Games Express published In the early 90s. Usually, the title made it quite clear what the game was based upon (at least if you think in katakana English): Final Fantasy became Hi-Leg Fantasy, Dragon Quest became Body Conquest, Wizardry (though I'm not quite sure about this one) became Lady Sword, and Street Fighter, well, Street Fighter became Strip Fighter.
There were a lot of half-naked people already in Street Fighter 2, so the actual game doesn't even seem unusually erotic. Yes, I understand there is something wrong with an industry when a group of women kicking the crap out of each other in thongs is totally normal, but fuck that; I'm not a sociologist. I'm just telling you that probably nothing in this game is going to turn you on until you win a picture of a naked girl. Unfortunately, that's when it gets a little bit creepy. Before the camera pans down her strategically blurred body, there's an inept attempt by the graphic artists to make it look like the girl's winking at you. A stupid graphic of an eyelid slides over one eye then disappears. And I don't know if you've ever seen anyone wink without moving the rest of their face, but it looks less like flirting and more like a horrible sleepy-wakey baby doll with a broken eyeball.
Expect to win pictures of nude women winking and saying something in japanese likeThis game blows more than Me! Stop Playing!I also find it weird that these strippers are fighting in anything BUT Strip Clubs. What's the Point? At least throw in a mud-wrestling Bonus Round or some crap. After suffering through this game I come back totally impressed by the minimal effort put in to make such a bad game. I also want to take the time to feel sorry for anyone that found Strip Fighter 2 anything or at all related to sexy. I say the only time I actually got hard from playing this was when I looked away from the screen.
The control is horrible, the graphics aren't that great, the AI is stupid, and it's very easy to beat (but frustrating because the controls suck). The special moves are lame (except for that spinning breasts of death attack that's cool ) and are supposed to reward you by having your character flash some skin or do something sexually suggestive. But it ends up just looking dumb.
This game is just too damned painful. While taking these screenshots, I just wanted the whole ordeal to be over. It is, without question, the worst game I've ever played for the Turbo Grafx/PC Engine, and that includes a whole lot of worthy candidates. China Warrior, for example. Shines like molten gold next to this maggot-riddled pile of dung.
Strip Fighter is well, a porno mod for Street Fighter. It's a totally independant game, but it has more than a passing resemblence to Street Fighter. The characters (though all are girls) are basically the same as Street Fighter, a fat woman (E. Honda in ST), a woman with a mohawk (Guile in ST) etc etc. As you'll probably notice, the in-game shots don't have any nudity, and you're probably zipping your pants up and saying
What gives?, thats thefunpart about the game, you must win 2 rounds in a match to see the girl naked, though with the downstairs area blurred out, of course. The game is very similar to Street Fighter, though the animation is pretty shocking, but this game isn't meant to be taken seriously, anyways. Just a warning, some of the moves, may seem esoteric.
Aparasitegame is one created in the wake of a highly successful game of the same genre. Strip Fighter II (or 2) is such a game. Just by viewing the initialsSF2you can obviously see that it's trying to cash in on the success of Capcom's own Street Fighter II (again, or 2). But there is something Strip Fighter II is offering that Capcom never thought about. It's something that Ken, Ryu, and especially Blanka could not offer to a gamer nudity. That's right; what do you think thestrippart of the title was for? Seeing as how M. Bison, Zangief, and Dhalsim wouldn't exactly be naked model material, the creators of Strip Fighter II, Games Express, incorporated an all female cast of six fighters. How considerate, seeing as how there's a woman for just about every lowly pervert (including me) that picks up the controller to play the game.
