Guess there were more Tetris coin-ops than I thought. This one, which was ported to Gameboy and Playstation in 1996 and got a sequel in 1997, had a sort of story (something about an archeologist) and some additional features like that slowly descending platform. The Playstation version had 80 levels and 20 bonus levels. The Nintendo Database describes the Gameboy version as follows:

After so many sequels that deviated from the classic Tetris formula, Tetris Plus goes back to basics. Tetrads made up of four blocks arranged in different shapes fall from the top of the screen, and you have to rotate them and create rows across the screen to make the blocks vanish.

You can play the basic Tetris game in this way, but there is also an extra puzzle mode where you have to help a small explorer get to the bottom of the screen by clearing lines. A spiky ceiling drops down from the top of the screen breaking your blocks—and if it touches the explorer then you lose the puzzle.

There is also a VS. Mode where you can play against another Game Boy using the Link Cable. Finally there is an Edit Mode, where you can create your own puzzles for the explorer to escape.—NinDB
