The official spinoffs of Tetris were usually much, much stranger than the inofficial ones. Welltris is a good example. Before I played it, or rather tried to play it, I thought it was somehow similar to Blockout: Tetris in three dimensions. It isn't. It's something entirely different.
So the pieces (which are not the original tetrominoes, but, similar to Pentix, are sometimes smaller, sometimes larger) come down from all sides. They glide across the bottom of the well until they hit the opposite wall, or another piece. They are manoeuvered by the numeric keypad: 4 clockwise, 6 counter-clockwise. If they cannot fully glide onto the bottom, the wall will flash red. After a while, it returns to normal. If all four walls are red, game is over and you see a nice pic of a Russian family celebrating.
