In 1993, Venzislav Iliev created in Berlin a kind of strip poker DIY kit which he called WinSP, or Strip Poker for Windows in the application's title bar. It contained the AI and the user interface. Opponents were to be loaded from simple DLL resource files, which contained bitmaps of the damsels in various states of undress and strings for the dialog. There was an SVGA version which was available for a shareware fee and which, in the later states of development (1994) was able to play videos and WAV files. In this case, the filenames were stored as strings in the DLLs. Unfortunately, this version seems to be lost for good.

Any kind of game maker without some sort of sample game is not very attractive, and so it seems (since the original distribution archives are lost, we can't be sure) that Venzislav Iliev created one sample DLL, Cherry. It features quite good cartoony art in the Windows default palette.

WinSP, with the Cherry DLL, is the only strip poker game that can be played under Windows 3.1 on a 16-color VGA desktop.

Anime Strip Poker

In 1994, someone who called himself Mug"H"i created a series of DLLs with anime characters based on KiSS dolls by Ken Stone, an Australian and at the time one of the very few KiSS artists outside Japan. At the time, these DLLs were available from an FTP server, along with the shareware (VGA) version of WinSP, with which they did not work very well, for although they had sixteen colors only, they did not use the standard Windows palette and so the graphics wouldn't display properly under Windows 3.1, not even in XGA hi-color which I tried on my IBM PS/2 9557. Under Windows XP it's no problem, I don't know about 9x, but I think that will be no problem either.

Even apart from the display problems, these DLLs were not all that great, but in 1994, it was the only strip poker with anime characters that was available. The FTP archive is long down, you will now always find WinSP and the anime DLLs in a single zip file, and usually under the name of Anime Strip Poker.
