This is simply an alphabetic list of freeware and shareware applications. I have not commented them much, as the main purpose of this list is not to present them, but to help you locate them.

What you will not find here are browsers and archive utilities, as they have their own pages.

Programs with a * are especially recommended.

• 4P (Pixel Pushing Paint Program) is going to be a paint program for low-color, low-resolution images in the style of Electronic Arts' Deluxe Paint.
• Alcohol 120% is the best CD/DVD replication and emulation tool currently available. *
• Antiword is a free (GNU) MS Word reader for many operating systems. There is also a Windows version.
• Anvil Studio: Midi editor. !!!M!!!
• Arachnophilia: Web Site Workshop
• Artifice DesignWorkshop Light - Free 3D home design, walkthrough, and rendering software
• ASTRA - Advanced Sysinfo Tool (was Informer)
• DAMP is an mp3 player for DOS.
• Dawn, the Address Converter and Manager
• Drive Rescue
• E-Icons: E, of course, stands for Easy.
• EDIT: a DOS text editor *
• EditPad Classic is my favorite text editor on Windows. It is no longer offered for download from this site; you can either use the replacement, Editpad Lite, or download it from PCWorld. *
• FIPS: Disk partitioning tool.
• FTPX: FTP-Client. *
• Guliverkli is an mpg player for Windows. Open Source.
• Hex Workshop
• HexEditor
• HexTool
• Hyplay: Free AVI player.
• Illumination: Customizes window borders in Win9x/NT. Open Source. Page currently disabled, but may be back.
• IrfanView: Freeware Graphic Viewer. This is one of the tools where I wonder how I could ever do without. *
• Metapad is a Notepad replacement. Freeware. It has a find and replace function and no file size limit, and downloads size is only 42k.
• NeoPaint is an excellent graphics program for DOS. *
• NewsReactor: Advanced Usenet Binaries Collector
• PCI
• Pedit is a text editor for DOS. Comes with a hex editor.
• PictView is a DOS-based multiformat image viewer and converter.
• PlayFKiSS. More about KiSS.
• POV-Ray: Persistence of Vision Raytracer. Open Source. *
• PFE: Programmer's File Editor.
• Rambooster
• Replace in Files
• RightClick-MP3 encodes and decodes mp3 files. Freeware.
• Search and Replace does exactly what its name implies, but it does it in multiple files. Very useful. Shareware, $25. *
• Terragen: Create and render 3d-landscapes. *
• UPX, the Ultimate Packer for eXecutables
• XVI32 is a freeware hex editor for 32-bit Windows.
