What is it that you actually want?
Actually it's not a bad thing to have something to like in a big way.
Whether it's sportscars, aeroplanes, TV-shows or some stars from the showbiz-scene.
Further I don't say anything against having hardly any limits because of
juvenile enthusiasm and if someone just wants to or simply has to scream out one's exaltation.
Things like that have been happening for many years:
When the teenager Frank Sinatra appeared in various movies in the 40ies
that was accompanied by a lot of screamings by this fans. But that was only the beginning of what
Elvis Presley was in the 50ies for the culture of youth. Numerous
girls started to scream again when the 21 year old "Elvis the Pelvis"
moved his hips to the rhythm of Rock'n'Roll.
In the 60ies the noise continued in similiar way with The Beatles.
The 70ies were the so called rest from the 60ies and in the 80ies
the superstar was called Michael Jackson.
Although in the 90ies Teenie Bands like Take That or the Backstret Boys stand
in the limelight, it's not getting quiet around the so called
"King of Pop" (As far as I am concerned this signification
isn't any more than a bunch of King of Rock'n'Roll which Elvis was once
regarded as). This doesn't surprise me much at all. Eventually it's part
of showbiz to keep being present for the fans. You have to draw a line though
between absolutely being fan and appearently comlete stupidness:
When The Rolling Stones toured Vienna in 1990 it wasn't clear
for a long time, in which hotel they were taking residency.
Paul McCartney too caused a lot of confusion in 1993.
On July 2nd, 1997 the "King of Pop" did a gig in
the Vienna townhall. From the very beginning it was no secret, that he'd
live in the Hotel Imperial near the opera. It was kind of understood that
fans stood in front of the hotel waiting for him. To some extend they came
from England or France to catch a glimpse of their superstar.
But apearently those true fans didn't know exactly when or where
Michael Jackson actually had an act. The fact that there was some kind of a
siege in front of the hotel the day before as well as the day of the
concert was quite logical. And also the fact that the crowd stood there
the day after to wait for the Megastar to come out to leave for the
airport was quite acceptable for me. I began to doubt the
Viennese (?) Jacko fans' intelectual abilities though, when on the evening
of the 4th of july I saw a number of teenagers standing in front of the hotel and this number
hasn't shrinked even 1%. They were all standing there screaming
"What do you want? Michael Jackson! When do you want him? Now!"
I didn't stop there to ask them what it was that made them believe Jackson
was still inside that hotel. After all he was going to do a concert in
the Munich Olympic Stadium in a few hours time.
The teenies were that fanatic it probably would have been offending for
them being asked for their reasons.
So I prefered to keep silent.
Nevertheless, didn't they know anything about what their favourite star was going to do after his concert
in Vienna? Or are they really short of the ability of logical thinking?
Even someone like Michael Jackson will face enormous difficulties to be
at two places at the same time. Unless the star is no usual human being.
Although I'm not inclined to take some Science Fiction stories too
serious the question remains: What did those few hundred people actually expect?
Or should this be a confirmation to the theory that Michael Jackson is an
alien?
In that case the question would have to be posed in a completely different way.
