The Genesis of the Project
In 2004 Comin’ and Goin’ was invited as a „special guest“ to an international festival in the Republic of Korea: the „World Culture Open (WCO) 2004“. This finally led to the foundation of the extensive music and dance project „Comin‘ and Goin’ meets ...“ – a reflective dispute with flamenco, classical South Indian dance as well as traditional Korean music, imbedded in the extraordinary spectrum of sounds of our project. Since then Comin’ and Goin’ has decided to invite other artists, who are friends, to join this project.

Traditionelle koreanische Perkussion und Gesang zur Begleitung von „Pansori“ (traditionelles Geschichtenerzählen) und „Samul Nori“ (traditioneller koreanischer Perkussionsstil)

Meditative, exciting and full of fantasy is the music of Comin’ and Goin’, a wide and expansive sound spectrum für body, spirit and soul. Just as the instruments which come from all over the world so too are the artistic roots of the seven musicians deeply anchored in many styles and generations: traditional Asiatic, Latin American and African percussion together with the groove of the didgeridoo; electronic sounds (e. g. created by the EWI = Electric Wind Instrument) get to know the tonal sensations of the sitar and elements/instruments of jazz music.

The resulting harmonic-dynamic sound compositions, which the musicians have developed since the foundation of the band in 1996, has made it possible to tell new, colourful musical stories which are profoundly touching, holistic and openminded in the best possible way.

After nine years of consistent work we have a clear conception of which modes of expression the instruments of our project open up. In the last two years we have worked together extensively with musicians of other styles and cultures. Especially our two tours to the Republic of Korea were very inspiring and finally led to the foundation of the extensive music and dance project „Comin‘ and Goin’ meets ...“ – a reflective dispute with flamenco, classical South Indian dance as well as traditional Korean music, are imbedded in the extraordinary spectrum of sounds of our project.
The present compositions are a result of that time and reflect those influences. We want to transport not only the contents but also the sounds of our unusual combination of instruments.
Because of the close co-operation with Dieter Sailer (Klangspur-Studio) on our last Korean tour it became clear that in his person we have found the ideal sound-man and producer for our third CD. With his co-operation we can transpose the full spectrum of sounds also of the live situation on stage.
Our idea of a mixture of styles, which combines on the one hand the authentic rhythms and characters of the original instruments in a new way and on the other hand gives the possibility that the present compositions influence each other, allows us to translate into deeds our understanding of World Music.
Our vision is to continue this reflective process aiming to give impulses for cultural tolerance and co-operation.
