Maiko Covington: Life in a Japanese School

In March 1991, a student of the University of California, San Diego, got homesick and sent a series of posts to rec.arts.anime describing her life at a Japanese high school. Her posts became true Usenet classics, and, for a time at least, the most authentic if not the only source of information about their topic.

Curtis H. Hoffmann: Life Imitating Art

A post to rec.art.anime from December 1992 about various aspects of everyday life and popular culture in Japan.

You know you've been in Japan too long when…

A text that has been floating around the Internet for a while. Probably dating from the mid-90s, it describes in the typical humoristic list styles the experiences of Americans living and working in Japan for years and finding themselves stranded between the cultures.

Phonological and Morphological Analysis of Janglish

Not as complicated as it sounds. It is about English words in Japanese, a scientific paper, but readable.

Japanese Games

Japanese video and computer games from 1980 up to the present.

Japan Links

Aria in Afterlife would say: “Your Japan links are a tangled mess, boss!” They are. Like so many things on this website, it started out with some Japan-related links I had collected. These links became more and more, and I tried to structure them a bit. I was not too successful. So good luck in finding anything specific, but have fun browsing them at random.
