Joe Julius Isaak Philipp Heydecker

Born 1916 in Nuremberg

Apprenticeship with the photographer Stephan Rosenbauer in Frankfurt

From 1933 to 1939 lived outside Germany

From 1939 until 1945 soldier in the Wehrmacht in WW2. His photographs of that period are archived at the Austrian National Library

After the war, reporter at the Nuremberg trials, later journalist and editor at the main German papers

From 1960 reporter with several newspapers, later bookseller and publisher in Brazil. Lived in Vienna from 1986 until his death 1997. Left an extensive photographic and literary opus

Among his books are: Der Nürnberger Prozess [The Nuremberg Trials]; Where is thy Brother Abel?; Das Warschauer Getto [The Warsaw Ghetto]; Im Krieg gesehen [Seen at war], Der Grosse Krieg 1914/18, [The Great War, 1914/18]; Die Schwestern der Venus [Sisters of Venus]; and Die Stille der Steine [The Silence of the stones]
