ENCOUNTERING SÁNDOR VÉGH
It was an important date for me. I was scheduled to play Bartók’s Second Violin Concert at a Music Event. Two weeks previously, I heard about a Master Class to be held by Sándor Végh in Salzburg and promptly appeared there the next morning. I found him in the Mozartheum, in a hall overflowing with students. Upon entering, he saw me, the newcomer, and asked what business I was traveling in.

Ma Li
Professor of Cello. At the age of 7, she joined an art organization called “Little Red Flower” and started to give performance as a cello player. During 1976 and 1982, she continued her cello study in Nanjing Art Middle School (No. 9 Middle School). In 1982, she went to study as a professional player in Music Academy of Nanjing Arts Institute. She was graduated in Nanjing Music Academy in July, 1986 and became a teacher then. In 1995 she was invited to attend the “Thousand of People’s Symphony” in Nagoya, Japan. After that, she went to Shanghai Music Academy for further study in Cello and Chamber music. In May, 2001, Mrs. Ma traveled to Aichikan Art Institute and studied under Professor Amano and Professor Kanda. During her stay in Japan, she played with famous directors such as and Toyama participated the orchestra in Aichikan and Nagoya. Her performance was well accepted by the audience. In recent years, Mrs. Ma has put effort on both playing and teaching and gained great success. In September, 2004, a special chamber concert for Schubert, in August, 2005, a trio concert at Nanjing Art Centre. In June, 2006, Gene Collerd, a well-known Clarinet player and Goa Ming, violinist also came to Nanjing to join Mrs. Ma and held a successful chamber concert. In July, 2006, Professor Ma successfully held a concert at the Music Hall of Nanjing Art Centre. In 2007, she went to Vienna, Austria for cultural exchange for three months. There she joined the Szabo Quartet and gave some concerts, which were highly praised.
