The Luberon in the North of Provence is famous for its lavender fields, cherry gardens and goat flocked hills. Favoured by climate and nature the Luberon provides countless possibilities to relax and find contemplative quietness. Further, the region is protected by a general building restriction against mass-tourism.

Like many other towns of the Luberon, Lauris has well preserved its medieval character. Also, its impressive location on top of the steep rocks at the edge of Durance valley add to the peculiar characteristics of that town. The commanding view from atop of these rocks is shared by the Chateau of Lauris and its neighbouring buildings, as for instance the Commanderie.
